If you
could go back in time, where would you go?
I would go to the moon, I will control it and make life living hell for you.
INK - Script 3
·
Changed Ed’s normal size bag to a huge bag in
order to emphasise his love for pens and how many he steals
·
Made Ed’s bag colour coordinated to show his
obsession is similar to that of Mr Cross’
·
Also gave Mr Cross a huge bag to show the two have
something in common to show Mr Cross has an obsession
·
Added Mr Cross feeling hesitant to show he has a
problem with giving pens out despite his hundreds in his bag and desk drawers
·
Also made Mr Cross give Ed an ugly broken pen
even though he had many more normal ones to show he hates sharing with his
students, especially his knew stuff
·
Made Ed take his bag to the desk to show he
doesn’t like leaving his pens behind, and he has big plans to steal Mr Cross’
pens, also to show he is a professional
·
Added Ed being caught from behind with his bag
of pens
·
Added a voice over of Ed being worried about getting
in trouble, so audience are as surprised as Ed when the plans change, show
typical thoughts when a child is sent to the head teachers office
·
Added a fade to black when entering the room to
show suspense of what’s inside the room
·
Changed the dialogue to police jargon to make
the matter seem more serious even though it’s about pens
·
Add more dialect to explain the story and make sure
the audience are fully aware of what’s going on
·
Add more scenes to make the story more interesting
and add more layers to it, also to add to logical causality and add depth to
the characters

Tagline- The Ultimate Pen Heist

Ed started stealing to find comfort in being alone, however he is starting to become increasingly greedy, stealing a large amount of pens at school. His proficient stealing skills results in him being offered a new opportunity, but does he turn it out down or let the greed consume him?
Ed’s rebellious nature results in him getting detention as he does not do his maths homework, his teacher, Mr Cross, gives him detention for after school to which Ed attends.
In detention Ed asks Mr Cross for a pen despite having stolen many pens that day, Mr Cross is clearly not pleased but is interrupted by a call and steps outside to take it. Ed is hungry for more pens and starts to steal a couple more of Mr Cross, however, he begins to steal more and more pens from Mr Cross putting them in his bag, he can hear Mr Cross out in the hallway coming back into the classroom but he is consumed by greed and decides to risk it and take another pen. He is caught in the act by Mr Cross who stops Ed and notices his open bag full of pens he has stolen today, Mr Cross sends Ed to the Head teachers office as punishment.
Realising that he has been caught, Ed begins to panic and worry. As he is close to arriving at the Head teachers office, he can see in the distance Mr Cross standing at the door in a stern manner, however as he approaches he can see that Mr Cross is smiling. Unexpectedly Mr Cross exclaims how he admires Ed’s stationary stealing skills and offers him the opportunity to steal as many pens as he likes, as long as he gives them to Mr Cross who dislikes pupils who asks for pens put never return them. Ed and Mr Cross set up a fantastic pen stealing network in the school, with Ed being the master stealer and Mr Cross setting Ed up.
Over a few weeks Ed begins to steal more and more pens, becoming very greedy in nature. Mr Cross offers Ed the opportunity of the ‘Ultimate Pen Heist’ in which they steal a box of red pens, which are the rarest and hardest to steal, from the Head teachers office, as Ed is consumed by greed he immediately takes up the opportunity.
However, Mr Cross betrays Ed in order to steal the red pens for himself and Ed is caught by the head teacher stealing from his office, Ed is suspended from school and turned over to the Pen Police whilst Mr Cross gets away with the red pens, Ed begins to realise that he is consumed by greed and his judgement was blinded so much so that he was being used by Mr Cross, Ed vows to never steal again and become less mischievous. Story Analysis - Score Card
The colour
that was assigned to my group was red, me and my group had to come up with
quirky film ideas which relate to the colour red without using the typical
meanings of red. For example, red means anger. All of the individual stories
that were written were then analysed by the group and then given a score.
The first
story written by Jojor was scored 2/5 for practicality. Practicality was the
biggest problem because realistically we wouldn’t receive permission to film in
rural areas such as, villages. Living in
London our so called “rural” areas happen to be overtaken by flats. Cast was
considered as another problem as the cast members in the film will be required
to know how to drive because at some point in the film idea the main character is
driving down a long road. In addition to this, the streets of London are too
busy and dangerous to film on.
The logical
causality within this film was fair as it was given a score of 3/5, the only
issue that was raised was when the main character got into his car and started
to drive, this seemed slightly random as the story doesn’t tell the audience
the reason behind why the character got into his car. This also seems to baffle
the reader as they are left to wonder where the character may be off to.
The thematic
unity in this film idea isn’t strong as there is not one strong direct theme.
It is a combination of anger, curiosity, resentment and regret. This was said
to be confusing for the audience causing disconnection between the audience and
the character. Thematic unity was given a score of 3/5. Finally, character
development was given a score of 2/5 as there is no sense of character growth
from the beginning right through to the end. The character is said to be stuck
in a phase which doesn’t dramatically evolve and this may cause boredom for the
audience.
We then
looked at Deni's idea. Within practicalities we found a few
issues, the first issue is finding a red blob to use as a prop, this will be
hard to find as it is not something common, it will not be easy to get a hold
of. Problem two is the use of dogs in the story, this could affect our
scheduled time for film making, making it hard for us to shoot consistent shots
and also we may also have to train the dogs or even hire trained dogs. This
could lead to high expenses and can also be time consuming.
Logical
causality is the idea that everything that happens occurs in a logical
manner and is not unexplained and without a clear motive. For Micheals idea, we
spotted that the only lack of logical causality is when the main character
randomly finds out about the article on the contact lenses, our group felt that
this was a significant plot point and should be furthered and explained in
detail. One idea we came up with in order to correct this was to change the
story. We decided that the main character is a university student who comes
across the contact lenses whilst visiting labs on the campus.
In Deni's plot we spotted the same issue, in this story the red blob plays a key part in the story but, the reason behind the existence of the blob is not explained, giving it no logical sense.
In Deni's plot we spotted the same issue, in this story the red blob plays a key part in the story but, the reason behind the existence of the blob is not explained, giving it no logical sense.
Thematic
unity is the idea that the activities that happen in the short all
center around one theme.
For both Micheal and Denis idea, we all agreed that both stories had one clear theme of greed with a collection of may themes with red such as passion, anger and willpower, we felt that this would be the most effective as with a clear theme it is easy to create a short around those ideas as well as adding other themes into the story as well increasing its depth.

Character development is important in that it
allows the audience to emotionally connect with the story and characters, character development
can be the driving force in a story and without it it can leave the viewer
feeling unsatisfied with the ending.
In contrast to Jojr’s story , in both Michael and Deni’s there was good character development, both the main characters change due to greed and at the end of the story. There is a clear difference between the characters at the beginning and the end, we felt that Deni's idea had the best character development as we also see the changes in other important characters such as the old man and best friend.
This story analysis task has helped us to identify all the issues in each story idea and improves our hindsight to similar issues when creating other story ideas, it also allows us to understand what we need to do in order to perfect our story ideas.
